County Derry Hotels

Perhaps because County Derry is located so close to Scotland, it was one of the first places in Ireland to be inhabited by people.

The name, Derry (Doire), means oak in Irish and this tree was a sacred symbol to the Druids who would gather in oak groves for their services.

There are plenty of activities and attractions in Derry, including Creggan Country Park, the watersports, outdoor pursuits and angling centre of the county.

The city of Derry is Ireland's only completely walled city and you will find the cobbled streets a step back in time.

Under the city are a series of tunnels and a history of Derry can be found in the Tower Museum.

A visit to the Doagh Visitor Centre in Inishowen will also be a visit to the past with its famine village of thatched dwellings. It is one of the most visited attractions in Ireland.
